A marinara is a simple tomato sauce made with few ingredients; generally tomatoes, aromatics such as onion or garlic, and some seasoning. It contrasts with a spaghetti sauce which contains more ingredients, such as meat or additional produce.
Low-carbohydrate
Many store bought marinaras contain sugar and other sweetners. The following is a low carboyhdrate alternative.[1]
Ingredients:
- 14oz can of canned tomatoes (unseasoned, crushed or diced)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Steps:
- If using diced tomatoes, blend them to a smooth sauce
- Combine all ingredients and stir
