A slow cooker (also called crock pot) is an electronic appliance that heats food a low temperatures for extended periods of time. Slow cookers use less electricity than an oven, tenderizes meat to allow for less-expensive cuts, and fully cooks a meal unattended. When used for lunch or dinner, slow cookers take advantage of an abundance of electricity during the sunny part of the day if using solar panels. Preparing dump meals in batch to prepare as needed with a slow cooker can save food preparation time and money.
