A living fence utilizing pollard willow trees as fence posts its whips to create wattle. Excess whips can be utilized as a fuel source.

Pollard is a coppicing method of cutting the plant well above ground level in order to keep the tender shoots of future growth out of reach of livestock or wildlife.

Another advantage of pollarding over coppicing is it uses less space at the ground level while growing the same amount of wood.[1] This allows for a more intensive use of the space.
