A fence is a vertical structure that encloses an area. Unlike a wall, a fence does not have a solid foundation along its full length. They are typically outdoors and constructed from posts that are connected by boards, wire, rails, or netting.

Wooden fence

A wooden fence is made from wooden pickets and provides increased privacy compared to a chainlink fence. Traditionally the posts are made by wooden 4x4 dimensional lumber posts though galvanized steel posts provide extra strength, durability, and longevity. Horizontally connecting the posts are 2x4 dimensional lumber boards, which the wooden pickets are fixed to using nails or screws. The longevity of the 2x4 boards can be increased with yakisugi and using stainless steel screws provides tighter and longer lasting connections with increased rust resistance.[1]
