Dough is a paste made out of flour by mixing it with water. Dough can be used to make bread, pastries, cookies, muffins, and other foods.
Low-carbohydrate
Many doughs are high in carbohydrates as they are made from grain or legume flour, however, low-carbohydrate doughs can be made from eggs and cheese. These doughs may be better suited for diabetic individuals, individuals eating a ketogenic diet, or individuals looking to reduce their carbohydrate intake.
Fathead dough
Fathead dough is used to to make pizza and was made in the documentary Fathead.[1] It can be paired with a low carbohydrate marinara.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese
- 1 egg
- ¾ cup almond flour
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
Steps:
- Mix the mozzarella and cream cheese together, heat as necessary
- Mix in the egg, almond flour, and optional seasonings
- Shape out dough into a 12" circle on parchment paper
- Temporarily lay a second sheet of parchment paper on top of the dough to prevent the roller from sticking
- Blind bake for 10 minutes at 450° Fahrenheit
- Add toppings and continue baking as needed
Chaffle
Chaffles are a cheese waffle.[2]
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
