Polystyrene is a synthetic polymer commonly used in packaging.

Polystyrene (trademarked as Styrofoam) is a synthetic polymer commonly used in packaging. Most recycling centers will not accept polystyrene, but it can be saved and reused. Polystyrene is also used in insulated concrete forms, thermomass walls, and structural insulated panels.

The polymer can be dissolved in acetone.
