A well is a hole in the ground that reaches a water table. A submersible electric pump brings water from the water table into a pressure tank at ground level where it becomes pressurized for use.
Wells require electricity to pump and pressurize the tank. They require the most amount of electricity immediately when turned on from an idle state, this time period is called a surge.[1]
