A stove is an enclosed space in which fuel is burned to heat either the space in which the stove is situated, or items placed on the heated stove.

A wood burning stove is called a wood cookstove, though wood heat stoves with a large enough flat surface to hold a pot could also be used for cooking, even if not specifically designed for such use.[1]
