A solar cooker is a device that concentrates and converts sunlight into heat to cook food. Light is concentrated using reflector panels. Solar cookers can be used throughout the year, regardless of ambient temperature, as long as the sunlight is bright enough to be able to cast shadows.

Types

Box cooker

A box cooker, also referred to as a solar oven, builds heat inside an insulated box. A transparent cover encloses to box to help trap heat. A box cooker is used similarly to conventional electric slow cookers.

Panel cooker

Panel cookers are similar to box cookers but use an enclosed cooking dish instead of an insulated box. Panel cookers and typically less expensive and more portable.

Parabolic cooker

Parabolic cookers concentrates a large amount of light onto a focused point on a pot or pan. They much higher temperatures compared to the other cookers and should not be left unattended.
