Denatured alcohol is a ethanol with toxins added to it to prevent consumption.

Denatured alcohol is ethanol with toxins added to it (denaturants), such as methanol, to prevent it from being consumed. The damage caused by drinking denatured alcohol depends on the denaturants used, with methanol causing damage to the nervous system and organs, increased risk of cancer, and possibly death.[1]
