A yurt set on a platform next to a pond.

A yurt is a portable, round shelter typically covered with felt or animal skins. Traditional yurts were used by nomads in Central Asia and had one large central living space used for cooking and sleeping with a restroom located in an separate structure.

Yurt walls are insulative against heat gain or loss but provide negligible sound privacy. This connection to nature may be desirable in isolated locations but objectionable along busy streets or near neighbors.
