Seed coating is the practice of artificially covering seeds with external materials to improve handling, to provide protection, or enhance germination.

Seed coating, or seed encrusting, is the practice of artificially covering seeds with external materials to improve handling, to provide protection, or enhance germination.[1] The practice is widely used for crop and vegetable seeds, but the know-how and methodologies are rarely disclosed by the commercial seed industry.[2]
