A guild is a close association of species clustered around a central element such as a plant or animal. This assembly acts in relation to the element to improve the health and management of the species as well as to buffer any adverse environmental effects.[1]

Creating plant guilds utilizes companion planting for selecting plant species that are beneficial to each other, or at least not harmful. Some benefits include reducing root competition, provide physical shelter, providing nutrients, assisting in pest control.[1]
