A drupe, such as an avocado, is a a type of fruit in which the outer layer has a thin skin, the middle layer is thick and usually fleshy or though, and the inner layer, known as the pit is hard and stony.

A drupe is a type of fruit in which the outer layer has a thin skin, the middle layer is thick and usually fleshy or though, and the inner layer, known as the pit is hard and stony. Within the pit is usually a solitary seed but sometimes multiple form with only one fully developing.
