A chinampa is a system of agriculture used in Mexico and Thailand that consists of a ditch and bank configuration. The plants growing on the bank have access to the water in the ditches, and the fish in the ditches utilize any fringing vegetation. Sludge from the bottom of the ditch is brought up in buckets and used in the garden beds to keep them fertile.[1]
