Cast-iron cookware are items made from from iron used for cooking, such as pots, pans, and skillets. They are valued for their durability, nonstick properties, versatility, heat retention, and low prices. However, attention is needed to prevent rusting. Seasoning is used to protect bare cast iron from rust and to create a non-stick surface. Cast-iron can also be enameled to prevent rusting as well.
