An acid is a compound that easily loses hydrogen ions to other substances. Weak acids lose some of their hydrogen ions while strong acids lose most or all of them.
Acids have values below 7.0 on the pH scale. Weak acids are within the 4 to 6 range and a strong acid is within the 1 to 3 range.
